Norwalk's Maritime Aquarium Offers Discounts During Coat Drive

NORWALK, Conn. – The Maritime Aquarium will give a discount to visitors who donate a new or gently worn used coat Saturday and Sunday.

The Maritime Aquarium will have a winter coat drive this weekend, along with a special activity station to learn how animals, like river otters, survive in the cold ocean.

During the aquarium’s “Warm Coats, Warm Hearts Weekend,” adults will receive $5 off the $19.95 admission and children will receive $3 off the $12.95 admission price. The discount does not multiply for extra articles of clothing. Donors also can bring new or gently worn hats, scarves or gloves.

Keeping with the theme of keeping warm, the aquarium invites guests to discover how marine creatures survive in the cold. Aquarium educators will invite guests to feel how whale blubber insulates, to stroke the thick fur of an otter pelt, and to learn more about the animals’ heating systems.

The aquarium will donate the clothing to the Open Door Shelter of Norwalk.
